Drug Decriminalization and Harm Reduction Academy

This is an online course module dedicated to the drug crisis in Toronto, Canada

Introduction

Welcome to our crash course on drug decriminalization and harm reduction in Toronto.

Using a sociological lens, this course attempts to provide evidence-based education on the drug crisis accessible to those in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

The study of sociology attempts to expand our knowledge, awareness, and analysis of social institutions, cultures, and relationships that shape our individual lives and history. However, sociology as a discipline has historically overlooked the very groups they choose study. Therefore, this module will aim to remedy these gaps in knowledge by including the life experiences of active and recovered users in th Toronto area.

Through this educational module, we hope to humanize the drug users of Toronto and push people to fight for a future that protects the health and well-being of ALL Torontonians.

We hope our viewers:

1. Learn about the history of drug criminalization and how it has led to the current drug crisis in Toronto.

2. Learn about the experiences and hardships of active and recovered drug users in Toronto.

3. Learn how to better support drug users and harm reduction efforts.

In light of our goal to better support active users, in addition to our resource page offering opportunities to further your education on harm reduction - it also provides links and resources to support those in active addiction. Although this module is primarily directed at educating the general public, we hope to contribute the goals of this course by providing an extensive list of current and useable resources for active users in one place.
